Just spent 2009 exploring the use of SFBT in mixed acute mental health unit, has been interesting and fun. Spent many episodes talking with clients about what works, whats better, asking them how will that make a difference? Done scaling, explored exceptions asked miracle question many times now.
I think that this has been a great way of talking with my clients and I have established some "champions" of SFBT.
Was lucky enough to get Michael Durrant to come and pr…

Have just been commissioned to train, in the solution focus approach, Integrated Youth Services across a major local authority - about 150 people, over six days in the early part of 2010. These are closed trainings. However, I still have an open two day training coming up in February 2010 to which I'd like to invite you - or perhaps you could pass the info on to someone who might want to come?
Either way, the training is there and I look forward to working with people who wish to come - either…

I found it really interesting that the actor that played Spock in Star Trek said that after a while playing the role, he started becoming more logical and disciplined in his personal life and continued taking on Spock's positive behaviours. How Erickson would have mused over that.

Hello, I'm hoping we can organise a date sometime in late July where we can meet virtually (and for some in person) to look at developing the wikipedia page on solution focused (practice/approaches).
I feel this project has become more important since the recent press interest and their use of wikipedia to get first impressions of what SF is.
I will be booking a day off work to set up the open space and so I need to know which days would be better for the group?
The plan for the day would foc…

There has been a number of potential projects developing within the association that look exciting and could prove to be very useful. I thought the first best move would be to make a list of them just to visualise the ideas, and then we can get an idea of where we are with these.
We have the wikipedia SFA page project which a number of people have already joined the group on this site, the next move I guess would be to arrange a date so that we can organise the day. This will involve working vi…

As an enthusiast for skype, and just beginning to use TokBox and becomig aware of the uses they can be put to, I'd like to offer video supervision to anyone who would like supervision - particularly for folk who work with adolescents - in schools or the care system.
Please email if you are interested and for details of costs.

I am currently interested in a project called
Chainreaction and feel very excited about the positive, collaborative and respectful focus of the project.
This project aims to focus on mass collaboration with business leaders, activists, policy makers etc with the purpose of generating ideas for social change on a big scale. There's an opportunity for me to be involved (as a representative of the UKASFP) in the next conference in November.
I would lik…

Ok here's a few words about wiki's.
As many know there is the main
wikipedia web site. This has millions of articles on just as many topics. This wiki is run as a community, where for every topic there is an open community of people able to edit the information, with the hope of making the information correct and well referenced.
A wiki is typically based on:
collaboration
community
crowds (crowdsourcing)
discussion
network effects
change…

I have recently been invited to join a steering group and take part in an
online experiment in collaboration. The theme will cover:
What tools and principles do we need to help change to unfold? Social and technological development as means for better organizations, and a better world.
This online workshop will be a great learning opportunity in organisation development and change management…

Skype have been around the block a few times and have a very good reputation for simplicity and being technically stable in what they do.
Skype provide a telephone service through the internet with free skype to skype calls and cheap skype to other phones.
Many businesses use skype because of a number of reasons:
It's cheap to use
it allows people to send instant messages (like inst…

As promised I will begin a series of blog posts looking at the concepts behind some of the tools available on the net.
This post will look at RSS feeds which stands for really simple syndication.
Imagine a morning in the Plant household, I sneak downstairs to avoid waking up the littlest Plants to grab a cup of finest tea and read through my emails and catch up on the latest goings on across an estimated 3 billion websites!!
This used to be a bit of a headache as you can imagine until I disco…

Recently the
Guardian newspaper mentioned that CBT is a solution-focused approach...ouch.
I think the use of the term soultion-focused is very much lost in translation, at first I intended to reply however there was no comments section available online to respond to and all previous attempts at contacting the Guardian over it's naive view of TT have not been acknowledged.
I have tried in my ear…

A while back I ran a short survey with the members of the UKASFP on their current use of social networking tools and future use. It's taken me a few weeks to get a blog post together due to the many other projects on going, however here's a few words about this topic.
What is social media and social networking?
Social media (the type of content that drives social networking) is best understood as a group of new kinds of online media, which share most or all of the following characterist…

The UKASFP conference tickets will be available soon and no doubt in great demand. Over the last few years we have advertised the event through email campaigns, adverts in journals and word of mouth, it's safe to say we have had success. Much of this success has been down to the viral effect in the network connections between people so in the spirit of SF we need to be doing more of what works here.
This year we are moving with the times and advertising through a number of online social network…

I was very lucky to be invited to the

I manned a UKASFP stall and met quite a number of people who could relate to the principles of solution focus…
